Tacos de adobada

Tacos de pescado

Carne asada + adobada

Coctel

Before we dive into the best spots, here’s a quick crash course in what you should be ordering. It’s impossible to list it all, but these are some of our faves:

  • Tacos de pescado = fish tacos

    • Ensenada is the birthplace of the fish taco, so this is as good as you’ll ever get.

  • Mariscos = seafood

    • Mariscos just means seafood, but if you see a cart advertising this they will usually be offering a fresh or raw style of seafood. Tostadas and coctels are the go to here.

  • Tacos de carne asada = grilled beef tacos

    • A staple in all taquerias - a good option for trialling the house made salsas

  • Tacos de adobada = pork taco (shaved like a kebab)

    • Another staple - similar to the classic al pastor, only better

  • Tacos de carnitas = pulled pork tacos

    • Not as common as the others, but worth seeking out

  • Quesadilla = fried tortilla with melted cheese

    • So simple, yet so good

  • Torta = Mexican sandwich

    • Similar fillings to a taco, just swap out the tortilla for bread

  • Chicharon = pork crackling

    • Say yes to the hot sauce and toppings - the perfect bar snack

A note on tortillas: always go for corn, trust us (except for quesadillas, then flour is best).

A little bit extra

  • Muelle 3 = seafood

  • Plaza Santo Tomas = a newly developed plaza with a collection of bars and nicer restaurants

  • Bar Bura Cuatro Cuatros = Cliffside bar - share plates with a stunning view (Note: a visit here would take some extra planning as you’d need to organise a lift home in advance).

  • Primitivo / Deckmans = these are two different restaurants, both offering contemporary, outdoor cooking, all over the fire. (Note: these are located in Valle de Guadalupe so you’d need to plan your lifts in advance).

    • If you do make it out to the Valle then we’d suggest adding in Bloodlust Wine Bar
