ACCOMMODATION

We’ve chosen a hotel that ticks all the boxes so we can all stay together.

They’ve offered us a group discount, so follow the details below to get booked.

How to book:

Please contact the hotel directly and quote “Jake and Soph’s Wedding” when booking. Don’t use the usual channels (hotel website, booking.com, etc.) as you won’t be able to access the discount there - Whatsapp is best!

Rates for a standard room (other rooms are available for different group sizes)

  • Sun-Thurs: USD $111 / night

  • Fri-Sat: USD $145 / night

The hotel can take payment on arrival at the hotel, but they do need a credit card to secure the reservation. The easiest way to book is via WhatsApp - you send your card details securely (it’s encrypted) or arrange a call with them if you prefer to provide your details over the phone.

  • +52 646 255 9145

  • reserv@hotelcorona.com.mx

  • Angela Franco

  • If for any reason you need to stay elsewhere, please note that all wedding transport will be departing from the Corona hotel carpark.

Location

We wanted somewhere right in the heart of Ensenada Centro - close to the best spots to eat, drink and explore.

Why Hotel Corona?

Amenities

This hotel includes a pool, spa, sauna, gym, bar, restaurant (local and Western options), outdoor space (that’s great for kids) and access to private transport for day trips - check out their website for more info.

Value for money

We understand everyone is operating on different budgets, so we looked for somewhere comfortable and well-located that wouldn’t break the bank.

Afterparty

Because the wedding’s on a Monday, the hotel has agreed to keep their bar open till 2am, so we can carry the celebrations into the night.

Tips & Tricks.

Tips & Tricks.

Groceries

Directly behind the hotel is a 7-Eleven. This will sell most of the basics you might need.

Coffee

Most coffee in Mexico will be American style, but we’ve tracked down a few roasters for those who prefer good ol’ espresso.

About a 5 minute walk from the hotel is Raices Coffee Shop Riviera. It’s about as good as you’ll get and is located in an old 1930s casino.

Some other options include Sunset Coffee Roasters, Deliloop and Xcaanda, but these are all scattered around Ensenada.

Zona Centro

This is the main strip. We’d recommend heading here if you’re looking for a drink, a bite to eat or just to take in the general surroundings.

It borders the port, which is where all the cruise ships dock, so please check out our recommended spots to avoid eating in the tourist traps.

From here you will also find the marina and mercado negro, which is are nice spots to stroll around.

Beach

Due to the port, the beaches close to town can get a little dirty. So, the further south you go, the nicer they will be.

The closest place to swim is about a 20-30 minute walk from the hotel, but we’d recommend getting an Uber and heading further down - although not so far that you can’t get an uber back.

If you decide to head to the beach, you can take advantage of the vendors hiring out plastic chairs and umbrellas. We also highly recommend sampling some loaded chicharon (pork crackling with hot sauce and other toppings) or elotes (corn).

Food

First up, there is a restaurant at the hotel which will serve a mixture of both Mexican and Western meals - it’s regarded as having some of the best chilaquiles in town, which is a traditional Mexican breakfast.

Whilst this is convenient, we urge you to get out and sample the bites all around Ensenada - this is one of our favourite things to do when we visit and really is the best way to take in everything this town has to offer.

If you’re in need of a quick bite then we’d recommend a short walk to Carnitas Riviera: a street stall selling pulled pork tacos. We’ve eaten here and it was good - not our fave but still delish.

Nearby is also Caretta El Atlantis (a stall selling fish tacos and other cooked seafood) or Mariscos El Coyote (similar but more fresh seafood vibes) - we haven’t tried either of these yet but the reviews look good.

Please click HERE to see all the other spots we’d recommend. Remember, your meals in Ensenada are limited so do not take this decision lightly!!

Drink

We know you’re a thirsty bunch, so this list wouldn’t be complete without some recommendations on where to find a refreshing cerveza or margarita.

Of course, you can start at the bar in the hotel but it’s always best to get out and about.

Bar Andaluz is across the road and has a nice courtyard. It is located in the same old casino building as Raices Coffee and they do a fantastic margarita that even Jake (famously a marg hater) enjoys.

From here you can keep strolling into zona centro or you can uber down along the beach, where you can call into any of the casual spots that grab your attention.

If you’re looking for something a little more “hip” then these are some of our favourite night-time spots:

  • Bodega Ladron = a new and trendy wine bar, built in an old shed, serving up delicious bites and natty wines - the type of place Jake and Soph love to frequent back home

  • Matilda = a small cocktail bar with french meets mexican vibes

  • Microbrewery Aguamala = a brewpub built out of shipping containers (this ones just slightly out of town, but easily accessible by uber)

  • Wendlandt = another brewpub, but a bit of a louder atmosphere here, with DJ on the rooftop (also slightly out of town)

  • Evoke = relaxed, cocktail bar in town

  • Crane Hifi Bar = cosy cocktail bar spinning vinyls - we’re yet to go here but it looks cool
